Marco Antonio Peribán believes that the time is right for him to finally secure a big win in his professional career after controversial losses to Sakio Bika and J'Leon Love.  The Mexican has always promised much but has found himself on the wrong end of decisions twice as well as another debated draw against Badou Jack.  Indeed, his last official victory came back in March of 2013 with a second round knockout of Samuel Miller.  However, the 30-year-old will head to Liverpool, England next month confident that he can derail the plans of Londoner, James DeGale.

"I've had a good career so far," Peribán told BoxingScene via telephone.

"I've faced strong fighters and I was talked about as a big promise and now I'm fighting James DeGale who is very talented and a southpaw.

"I hadn't actually heard about him until the beginning of the year when there was a chance I might fight him, but Golden Boy Promotions couldn't come to an agreement at that moment.  I know that he was the WBC Silver champion so I've kept an eye on him, looked at a few videos and studied his record."

While Peribán rates DeGale as a boxer, he believes that the Olympic gold medal winner from 2008 is not on the same level in terms of punching power as one of his fellow Brits.

"He's a skillful fighter but he lacks something in the professionals that he had in the amateurs.  They are very different.  I've seen that he doesn't have the punching power that others in the division have, such as Carl Froch."

Fighting away from home is always a difficult decision to make.  Paul Smith's recent bout with Arthur Abraham was widely perceived to have been judged incorrectly by the three men at ringside.  Nevertheless, Peribán believes he can win if a knockout is not forthcoming.

"The most clear way to win a fight is by knockout," he insisted.

"But sometimes it just doesn't happen so we're working to give a good fight with a good rhythm so that it's clear to the judges who has won.

"It's a big motivation knowing that this is an eliminator, I could be knocking on the door again for a world title as I was last year.  I couldn't win the WBC title, unfortunately the judges robbed me against Sakio Bika.  But this is another opportunity, we're going to take advantage of it and get this win for Mexico which is a country that has been strong in the lower weight classes but not in the bigger weights."
