Scotland’s Paul Appleby was taken to hospital last night not long after his knockout defeat at the hands of friend and rival John Simpson.

Details remain sketchy at this stage, but news has reached us that the 24-year-old was sick during a taxi ride home after last night’s fight and was taken to hospital shortly afterwards. A CAT scan was carried out on the former British featherweight champion as a precaution.

However, at 4.50pm UK time, a family member of Paul’s tweeted to say: "Just out of the hospital after seeing Paul glad to see he is alright and just dehydrated thanks for everyones lovely comments Xx#speedyrecovery"

A family member exclusively told BoxingScene the following:

“He’s sitting up and he’s absolutely fine. He’s had blood tests taken and his brain is totally fine.”

The entire staff at Boxingscene.com would like to take this opportunity to wish the young warrior a speedy recovery.
