A potential light heavyweight clash between former champions, Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16 KOs) and Zsolt Erdei (33-0, 18 KOs), has fallen through. According to sources with knowledge of the negotiations, there wasn't enough money on table to make the fight possible for a Showtime televised doubleheader on April 14th.

As BoxingScene.com reported last week, there were ongoing discussions to stage a doubleheader for April 14th - possibly in a split site format - featuring Pascal-Erdei and a middleweight clash between the comebacking Jermain Taylor (29-4-1, 18 KOs) and Canadian veteran Joachim Alcine (33-2-1, 19 KOs), who recently upset David Lemieux.

As previously reported, Taylor-Alcine was much closer to a done deal than Pascal-Erdei.

Although the April date is a "Showtime Championship Boxing" event, the financial budget for that show is based on the working limits of a "ShoBox Special Edition." The available budget was lacking the necessary funds to finalize Pascal-Erdei.

On a side note, Pascal has retained the services of boxing adviser Greg Leon, who also handles Erdei, Alcine, Allan Green and several other boxers.

The April show will still move forward, possibly as a tripleheader. Taylor-Alcine will go ahead as planned, likely in Taylor's backyard of Arkansas. Super featherweight Gary Russell Jr. is a possibility for the show, and the postponed junior middleweight bout between Ronald Hearns and Erislandy Lara could land there as well.
