Oscar De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, has thrown his support behind the idea of a 5 vs 5 tournament, this time with his company against U.S. rival promotion Top Rank Inc., headed by Bob Arum.

This follows Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions sweeping Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing 5-0 in the inaugural event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“Great concept by @Turki_alalshikh @GoldenBoyBoxing vs @TopRank in Las Vegas,” De La Hoya tweeted.

Last month, Eric Gomez, president of Golden Boy Promotions, told BoxingScene that the two companies had previously discussed such a concept. Gomez even stated that they open to having a 5 vs 5 tournament with anybody.

“We were approached early this year by Top Rank and Bob Arum, and he wanted to get something together,” Gomez said at the weigh-in for Jose Ramirez-Rances Barthelemy.

“I think in the near future you will see something very likely with any of the big promoters,” Gomez said.

Given the deep roster that Golden Boy Promotions boasts with fighters such as Ryan Garcia, Vergil Ortiz, Floyd Schofield, and William Zepeda, a card featuring their top talents would undoubtedly attract attention.

De La Hoya went on, “Goldenboy vs Top Rank in Vegas is huge!!!! @BobArum let’s talk.”
