There has been no appeal filed with the Ohio Athletic Commission in Roberto Ortiz’s controversial knockout loss to Lucas Matthysse.

And even if there had been an official protest from Ortiz, there probably wouldn’t be a chance of the result being overturned.

“There are NO appeal of officials’ judgment calls,” said Bernie Profato, the commission’s executive director, speaking to BoxingScene.com via email. “The ONLY appeals is if the bout ends on a foul either being called or not being called and there is CLEAR video evidence to overturn the call.”

Matthysse knocked Ortiz down with a body shot in the second round of their bout, which took place in Cincinnati this past Saturday on the undercard of Adrien Broner vs. Emmanuel Taylor.

Ortiz rose from the canvas right as referee Benjy Esteves hit the count of nine. Esteves hit 10 as Ortiz was fully on his feet and ruled that he’d counted Ortiz out.

It was the first loss for the 28-year-old Ortiz, who is now 31-1-1 with 24 KOs.

“Nothing has been brought forth from the Ortiz camp,” Profato wrote on Tuesday, “and not at the fight either.”
