A new star was created on Saturday night, as Jaime Munguia (29-0, 25 KOs) of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, scored an emphatic fourth-round technical knockout victory against Sadam "World Kid" Ali (26-2, 14 KOs) of Brooklyn to capture the WBO junior middleweight world title at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.

Munguia was too big and powerful for Ali, sending him to the canvas several times before a left hook forced the referee to stop the fight at 1:02 of the fourth round.

Ali was defending his title for the first time, after shocking experts last December when he moved up from the welterweight division to send Miguel Cotto into retirement with an upset decision win.

Ali was not strong enough or big enough for the much larger Munguia.

The one-sided loss may send Ali back to the welterweight division.

Munguia's name first came to light a few months, when Canelo Alvarez withdrew from his planned May 5th rematch with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

Golovkin's handlers attempted to secure Munguia as a replacement opponent for a showdown at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

But the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) rejected Munguia as an opponent - questioning his experience and lack of world ranked opposition.

Golovkin would shift his return to Los Angeles and secured Vanes Martirosyan as the opponent.

Munguia's luck changed for the better - when mandatory challenger Liam Smith withdrew from his scheduled fight with Ali.

The withdrawal sent Ali's handlers in a furious search for a late replacement - and Munguia was more than happy to accept.

"This victory is something huge for me," said Munguia.

"This is a dream come true. Every fighter dreams of this. I want to thank the Nevada Commission for making this opportunity possible as they didn't allow me to fight Gennady Golovkin. I want to show that I am ready to fight at the highest level and with the best fighters."
