Anthony Mundine says he hopes his aborted fight with "Sugar" Shane Mosley can be resurrected later in the year after the American boxing legend walked out hours before the weigh in.

Mosley flew home on Tuesday with his management claiming promoter Vlad Wharton had breached their contract by failing to pay his $1 million fee in full ahead of Wednesday's scheduled light-middleweight bout in Sydney.

A "devastated" Mundine said his manager Khoder Nasser would talk to Mosley's representatives at Golden Boy Promotions in a bid to save the fight, possibly in December.

He hoped the controversy would not tarnish his name internationally, pointing out that unlike most of his fights, this one had an independent promoter.
