LOS ANGELES, California – At first Miguel Vazquez, the IBF lightweight champion, was sick.  Now he is sick and tired.

“Here in L.A., I have friends who read English and tell me what Ricky Burns and his manager are saying,” said Vazquez in an exclusive statement to BoxingScene.com.

“It makes me ill that people believe their nonsense.  Enough is enough.  I was under the weather with a stomach flu. It happens to the best, including the Queen of England and the king of the lightweights, which is  me.  I’ll be back at 100% strength to take on Burns.”

WBO titleholder Burns and his manager, Alex Morrison, have accused Vazquez of faking his illness to delay the unification encounter.  Rubbish, insists the native of Guadalajara, Mexico. Promoter Frank Warren was trying to reschedule the fight from March 16th to April 20th.

“I pray to God for opponents like Ricky Burns,” said Vazquez.  “I have the perfect style to defeat him.  Me and my camp are men of honor.  We signed a contract with matchmaker Dean Powell, and we will live up to that piece of paper.  I won’t even consider other opponents until I send Burns home to Scotland like a whipped puppy.”
