The brother of Michael Zerafa has been issued a ‘life ban’ from No Limit Boxing after he struck the trainer of Michael’s opponent in the ring yesterday.

Tommy Browne, who is trained by Tommy Mercuri, could not continue after the first round of yesterday’s bout with Zerafa in Sydney, Australia, indicating he had torn his bicep tendon. Zerafa reacted angrily and shouted ‘you quit’ at Browne, who had previously accused Zerafa of doing the same against Erislandy Lara. Mercuri was prompted to have words with Zerafa, only to be confronted by the winner’s brother, who stormed the ring and struck the trainer.

“It was a dog shot,” Mercuri told Fox Sports afterwards. “I didn’t even see it, just felt it… People like that shouldn’t be in the corner."

The No Limit Boxing statement on the incident read: “No Limit Boxing confirmed today it had issued a life ban to the brother of Michael Zerafa following last night’s unacceptable incident in Sydney.

“He will be barred from attending all No Limit Boxing fight nights in future.

“The Combat Sports Authority of NSW have been informed of the decision ahead of any additional disciplinary action they may elect to proceed with.”

George Rose of No Limit Boxing said: “What happened last night is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated at any of our fight nights.”
