Michael Medina Tops Grady Brewer In Oklahoma City

Former reality show star Grady Brewer didn't exactly celebrate his 41st birthday in style, dropping a shockingly one-sided decision to Michael Medina in their main event Thursday evening at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. 

Scores were 99-92 and 98-92 (twice) in a fight described by Boxingscene.com's own Amy Green at ringside as a 10-round slugfest. 

Trained by Eric Brown out of his California home area, Medina showed up in the best shape of his career. In turn he picks up a career-best win as he 

improves to 25-3-2 (19KO). Medina insisted to

that he would enlist in the military if this fight produced the latest loss - and disappointment - in his career.

Suffice to say, Uncle Sam will have to wait a little longer before retaining the services of the 25-year old, who had dropped two of his last three heading into Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, Brewer once again faces hard choices in his career. The loss is his second straight as he falls to 28-14 (16KO). 

Not much has went as planned since winning Season Two of The Contender way back in 2006. Surgeries and general bad luck managed to squash any momentum Brewer should have been afforded from the life-changing opportunity, though 2011 was beginning to shape up as a turnaround.

A shocking fourth-round knockout win over previously unbeaten Fernando Guerrero this past June threatened a career-revival for Brewer, only to fall way short against Demetrius Andrade two months later. 

Brewer attributed foolish decision making (such as taking the fight on short notice) to the defeat and vowed a better-prepared version for tonight's fight, which took place about 90 minutes or so from his Lawton (OK) hometown. The loss to Medina paints a different picture, perhaps his toughest defeat to swallow in recent memory as past losses have come against top-shelf competition.
