Robert Diaz, matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions, confirms that negotiations are ongoing for a super featherweight title bout between WBC champion Takashi Miura (27-2-1, 20KOs) of Japan and three division king Abner Mares (26-1-1, 14KOs) of Mexico.

If a deal is reached, the fight would land on May 3rd, as part of the Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana Showtime pay-per-view undercard, likely taking place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

If successful, Mares would become the youngest Mexican fighter to win four world titles in four weight divisions.

"Negotiations are underway. There is interest on both sides. There is nothing official, but hopefully we can get it done," Diaz said.

Also in talks for the same evening is a potential super middleweight title eliminator between Marco Antonio Periban (20-1-1, 13KOs) and J'Leon Love (17-0, 10KOs), who Mayweather promotes. Periban has been out of action since last September, when he fought to a ten round draw with Love's stablemate Badou Jack.

"I'm waiting to get confirmation. I was supposed to fight on March 8, but now it seems that it we will be on May 3rd on Mayweather's undercard. We are talking about facing J'Leon Love, who is handled by Floyd. Hopefully we can make the fight," Periban said.
