USA Boxing's Mikaela Mayer did what was expected of her during her first round matchup in the women's lightweight division, dispatching of Jennifer Chieng from the Federated States of Micronesia by a unanimous decision.

"I felt good," Mayer told Chris Mannix of NBC Sports. "It was the first fight. I was still getting into my groove, getting my timing down. One down, I plan to improve with each fight."

A runner up during be U.S. Olympic team trials in 2012, Rio marks Mayer's first test on the Olympic stage. Despite this, the 26-year-old said she was no more nervous than usual.

"You have nerves going into every fight, no matter how long you've been doing it," Mayer said. "But even this being the Olympics, I didn't feel any more nerves than normal."
