Maurice Hooker may well already have been confirmed as a world champion –– but there is set to be another revelation regarding his career very soon. The classy Texan outpointed Terry Flanagan by split decision on Saturday, exclusively live on BT Sport, at Manchester Arena.

Hooker took the fight by margins of 117-111 and 115-113 but one judge scored it for former WBO lightweight king Flanagan, by 117 points to 111, as the pair met for the sanctioning body’s title a division north at super-lightweight, as part of the supporting cast to Tyson Fury’s underwhelming return victory against Sefer Seferi.

And Boxing Scene understands that the 28-year-old has agreed to join the World Boxing Super Series.

The 10-stone category of the eight-man tournament has yet to be formally revealed, but after beating ‘Turbo’ in his own back yard, ‘Mighty’ Mo will feature in it alongside WBC Diamond champion Regis Prograis, who has apparently been upgraded from interim champion, and WBA ‘regular’ champion Kiryl Relikh.

Josh Taylor also expected to join the ranks, should he beat former world champion Viktor Postol in a WBC title final eliminator on June 23, exclusively live on Channel 5, at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Away from the rumoured seeded fighters, Ryan Martin is also set to be named among the participants of the tournament, with more details set to be revealed in due course.

IN OTHER NEWS: Sam Maxwell kept up his unbeaten record – but failed to score a hat-trick.

The 29-year-old Commonwealth Games bronze medal winner moved to 8-0.

Maxwell took on Kane Baker at Manchester Arena, exclusively live on BT Sport, as part of the supporting cast to Tyson Fury’s winning return against Sefer Seferi and Terry Flanagan’s disappointing vacant WBO super-lightweight world title defeat at the hands of classy Texan Maurice Hooker.

And ‘Super’ Sam, who was a brilliant amateur, wanted to do a better job on his man than Conor Benn, the Ilford welterweight, when he faced him over six rounds.

But it wasn’t to be and Maxwell walked out of the ring after a 60-54 win over the Birmingham fighter.

He had George Vaughan and Gary Thornhill in the corner, with Derry Mathews absent, and produced a good performance when it mattered.

He will want to stay active now and will hope that there is a call coming in from his management team MTK Global and his promoter Frank Warren sooner rather than later with a new fight date.

And there was a draw between Jack Flatley and Troy Williamson.

The pair met over eight scheduled rounds in a rematch of the 2015 senior ABA final, but it was honours even.
