Matthew Hatton said the size difference between him and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez was way too much to overcome on Saturday night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Hatton went up from the welterweight division to fight Alvarez at the catchweight of 150-pounds. The young Mexican was unable to make 150, coming in at 151.4 at the weigh-in, and weighed 165-pounds by the time they entered the ring.

Hatton sensed the night would be long after he found himself able to connect with punches, yet he was unable to ever hurt Alvarez or push him back. Even when Alvarez tired in the second half of the contest, Hatton was landing a few flush combination that weren't doing any damage.

"I was never hurt in the fight. He was just too big. It was disheartening. I landed a lot of good punches but he was able to go through them. I'm not taking anything away from him because he was the better man. He's a good fighter, he's young bu there are things he can imrove on. I think he needs to improve his defense but he's young and I think he can improve," Hatton said.
