WBA interim-junior welterweight champion Marcos Maidana is planning for a very physical fight with Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero on August 27th in San Jose, California. Maidana, trained by veteran coach Rudy Perez, doesn't want to repeat the same mistakes that he made against Amir Khan and Erik Morales. Maidana lost a close decision with Khan, and won a close decision over Morales. This time Maidana doesn't want the fight to be close. He wants to leave a big impression with the judges and the ringside observers.

"This fight is very different from the one that I had against Morales. We are [going to fight] in his home, he's younger, left-handed, but my desire is to continue winning and not allowing anyone to beat me. Guerrero is a good fighter, but I know what I want and my goal is to transcend boxing," Maidana told Sal Rodriguez. "I'm going for a resounding victory. Training is going very well in Puerto Rico and we have more time to work with Rudy Perez and his team."
