By Team Maidana

After spending some time with his family in his native Argentina for a few weeks former world champion and current welterweight contender Marcos Maidana is back in Oxnard, California where he joined Robert Garcia’s Boxing Academy.

“It’s great to be back here to start training. Let’s see what is ahead but for sure I wanna stay as active as I can,” Maidana said.

In his first fight under Robert Garcia’s Maidana stopped the tough Mexican Jesus Soto Karass in an all-action fight last September 15th and got himself back into contention. Now he wants to fight for a world title.

“My promoter Golden Boy Promotions is working hard to get me a big fight. They’ve been talking to my advisor Sebastian Contursi in the last few days and it seems that I’d probably be fighting again in the US early next year against some of the big names. In the meantime I’d love to fight before my fellow countrymen before the end of the year to stay active,” the hard hitting fighter said.

“Personally I’d like to have a crack at WBA Welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi. He is a champion with no fear for anybody and I know he would fight me with no problem yet I’ve heard he wants to fight Ricky Hatton first. If not Paulie, maybe the Guerrero vs. Berto winner or any of the big names would be great. I want to prove myself in the 147 lbs. division,” said “El Chino”.

“We’ve talked to Golden Boy and we agreed that all the big names wouldn’t be available until February or March next year so there is a possibility that Marcos will be fighting in Argentina in December. Argentinean fans always give Marcos a strong support so they deserved to watch him fight live once in a while. We’ll see if we close some deal for December,” Contursi explained.
