Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California - In a crossroads fight between junior welterweight contenders who are coming back from close defeats, Marcelino Lopez (33-2-1, 18 KOs) drilled Pablo Cesar Cano (30-7-1, 21 KOs) in two rounds.

Coming in Cano pulled off a big win last November, with a split decision victory over Mauricio Herrera, but that boost was quickly downed in June - when he lost a twelve round split decision to Fidel Maldonado Jr.

Lopez had a three fight winning streak put to an end in April, after losing a close ten round split decision to Michael Perez.

Cano started very fast in the first, taking the fight to Lopez and landed a big right hand that opened up a cut around the left eye of Lopez. But Cano also suffered a small cut.

They were trading a lot of punches, especially to the body, in the second round.

Then out of nowhere near the end of the second, a huge two punch combination by Lopez sent Cano crashing down to the mat, with his head bouncing hard on the mat. Cano barely made it up to his feet and was very unsteady as the referee began a count and quickly waved off the fight.

Cano's corner was about to throw in the towel before the referee stopped the action. While sitting in his corner, after the stoppage, Cano told his corner that he had no idea where he was.

Lopez is now back in the hunt for a big fight, while Cano may be getting close to the end of the road.
