Doubletree Hotel, Ontario, California - Junior welterweight Manuel Mendez (15-1-2, 11 KOs) picked up his fourth stoppage win in a row, after battering journeyman Luis Arceo (28-16-5) for four rounds, before the referee stopped the bout in Arceo's corner after round four. Arceo was cut around the left eye from a legal punch in round three.

Mendez, winner by stoppage in eleven out of his last thirteen, is known for his power punching ability, but in recent training camps he's been working on adding more weapons to his developing arsenal.

With six fights in 2015 and five the year after, Mendez is on the fast track in his development. Friday's fight marked his second start of the year. Mendez is coming off a third round knockout win over Bergman Aguilar in March.

Mendez, who grew up in eastern Oregon near the Idaho border but relocated to Indio, Calif. to train with Joel Diaz, had put in a tremendous amount of time and effort into this training camp to ready himself against a far more experienced foe.

"Training camp consisted of a lot of diverse sparring sessions," said Mendez. "We had guys that liked to move around a lot. I saw a bunch that liked to apply pressure; ones that preferred to counter punch.  Overall, we got a great mix of styles to work with. I've been working on my head movement and other defensive angles. Joel [Diaz] has me throwing the jab more and focusing on straight power punches."

Junior welterweight Jessie Roman (21-3, 10 KOs) knocked out Luis Joel Gonzalez (11-5) in five rounds. Gonzalez was down twice in round four, once in round five from a body shot and the count was waived.

Mario Hernandez (1-0) won a four round unanimous decision over Manuel Salvador Manzo (0-5). The scores were 40-36, 39-37 and 39-37.

Super featherweight Alimkhan Jumakhonov (6-1-1, 3 KOs) won a four round split decision over Alberto Mora. The scores were 38-37, 38-36 for Jumakhonov and 38-27 Mora.

Alfredo Escarcega (1-0) made his pro debut with a four round unanimous decision win over Mario Aguirre.

In a battle of prospects making their debuts, Xavier Pena (1-0) defeated Daniel Guzman (0-1) by way of a third round disqualification. Guzman was down in the first round. Pena could not continue from due to an intentional low blow round three and Guzman was disqualified.
