Amir Khan’s last two opponents have been in contact via Twitter and may be in the early stages of a deal to fight each other in the near future. Interim WBA light-welterweight champion Marcos Maidana, 27, has announced that he may be willing to fight Paul McCloskey on his home soil and has told the Irishman to keep in touch for further talks.

“Chino” had hoped to rematch Amir Khan in July, but after the British fighter signed to fight IBF champion Zab Judah, the Argentinian has been forced to look elsewhere. 30 year-old McCloskey, who lost to Khan in six rounds last April in Manchester, instigated an online chat with Maidana, to which Maidana responded to positively.

McCloskey to Maidana - A fight with me will make way more than those other guys you mentioned now that Khan is dodging. So get in touch......I'm ready.

Maidana To Paul Mccloskey - Could be a good fight indeed. Let's do it in the UK.

McCloskey To Maidana - Sounds good to me. Follow back to get in contact with my management. We are ready to talk.

Maidana To Paul Mccloskey - That's great. Stay in touch.

McCloskey To Maidana - A fight with me here will fill any arena. Lets give the fans what they want. Lets do it!!

Whether anything comes of it is anyone’s guess, but a McCloskey v Maidana bout in Ireland would get the Irish fans out in force to support their man. Realistically though, it may only be a pipe dream for ‘Dudey’ who is on the back of a loss and a rematch with Erik Morales or a bout with interim 135lb champion Robert Guerrero, would certainly be more lucrative for Maidana.
