Brian Magee (36-4-1, 25KOs) will fight for the vacant WBA "regular" super middleweight belt in the fall after the now former champion Karoly Balzsay pulled out of their scheduled contest with a back injury.

Magee’s team held all the cards for the bout after winning the purse bid and will now be able to pick and choose an opponent from the WBA’s top 15 contenders at 168lbs for the title bid, which could now happen in Belfast this October.

“We are in a great position and we will have to wait and see what happens,” Pat Magee, the 37 year-old’s promoter told The Belfast Newsletter.

“We could either go for a big fight against one of the top guys in the division, or we could aim lower down.

“The great thing is that we are in pole position and we hope to have the fight in October on a date and venue to be decided.

“We want the fight as soon as possible, because Brian has been in training for a while now.”

The southpaw, who previously held the IBO title between 2001 and 2004, has impressed with recent victories over Jaime Barboza and Rudy Markussen and will be favourite to pick up the title having already secured home advantage.
