WBA Super-Middleweight Interim Champion Brian Magee (35-4, 24 KOs) is eager to claim the next Danish scalp when he faces Rudy Markussen (37-2, 24 KOs) on February 18. The duo will collide in the main event of the first Nordic Fight Night at Broendby Hall. Having travelled to Denmark in January 2010 to destroy Mads Larsen in a European Title Fight, the Irish veteran is convinced that Markussen will meet the same fate.

Q: What do you think of Rudy Markussen?

BM: “Rudy Markussen is a world-class fighter with a great record. He has a phenomenal knock-out percentage. He must be one of the hardest-punching super-middleweights in the world. However, having faced the likes of Bute, I don't think he will cause me any fears. A win against him will look good on my record.”

Q: What do you think of going to Copenhagen and fight him in his backyard?

BM: “I have no concerns about travelling to Copenhagen. In fact the majority of my fights have taken place outside Ireland so I am a seasoned traveller. I will be bringing my own army of Irish fans so I will not be without support in the hall on the night.”

Q: What makes you confident of success?

BM: “My confidence comes from my years of experience against the best in the world and I believe that I am boxing better than ever.”

Q: What makes you better than Markussen?

BM: “I believe I have more boxing skills than Markussen. I had a great amateur career winning a European silver medal and getting to the quarter-finals of the Olympic games. I fought all over the world. For example in 1996 I went to America and beat Jeff Lacy (former IBF champion) in the final of the Muhammad Ali cup which was a competition featuring the cream of the world amateur middleweights.”

Q: How long have you been training for this fight and where have you been training?

BM: “I have been training for this fight since November 2011. That meant training over Christmas and the New Year but I have had to do that before. The fight that comes to mind is the Mads Larsen fight, which was in January 2010.”

Tickets start at 250 DKK and are available at billetnet.dk. TV3+ will broadcast the Nordic Fight Night live from 20:00 onwards.
