Multiple sources have informed BoxingScene.com that heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz has suffered a thumb injury that has forced him to pull out of an April 22 fight against Derric Rossy.

The former interim WBA heavyweight champion from Cuba was supposed to box Rossy in a 10-rounder on the Shawn Porter-Andre Berto undercard a week from Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Ortiz-Rossy fight was to be televised on SHO Extreme before the Showtime Championship Boxing doubleheader began at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT.

The 38-year-old Ortiz (27-0, 23 KOs, 2 NC) signed with manager Al Haymon last month because he was having difficulty landing the type of meaningful fights he seeks. The 36-year-old Rossy (31-12, 15 KOs), of Medford, New York, accepted this tough fight against Ortiz on less than a month’s notice, which led to a hastily scheduled press conference March 30 in Manhattan to announce the addition of the Ortiz-Rossy fight to the April 22 card.

Sal Musumeci, Rossy’s promoter, told BoxingScene.com on Friday that he hopes Rossy can remain on the card against another opponent. Musumeci wasn’t sure, though, that a suitable substitute could be lined up for Rossy in time for next week’s card.

Musumeci also said that as of Friday afternoon neither Lou DiBella, the promoter of the April 22 card, nor Tom Brown, Ortiz’s promoter, had told him whether the Ortiz-Rossy fight will be rescheduled for another date or scrapped altogether.

The SHO Extreme portion of next Saturday’s telecast now will feature Brooklyn’s Amanda Serrano (31-1-1, 23 KOs). She’ll face Dahianna Santana (35-8, 14 KOs), of the Dominican Republic, in a 10-round fight for the vacant WBO world female bantamweight title.

The “Showtime Championship Boxing” broadcast will begin with a 12-rounder that’ll match Houston’s Jermell Charlo (28-0, 13 KOs) against Dallas’ Charles Hatley (26-1-1, 18 KOs) for Charlo’s WBC world super welterweight title. Porter (26-2-1, 16 KOs), of Akron, Ohio, and Berto (34-4, 24 KOs), of Winter Haven, Florida, will meet in the main event, a 12-round WBC elimination match to determine the mandatory challenger for welterweight champion Keith Thurman (28-0, 22 KOs, 1 NC).
