The junior welterweight Lindolfo Delgado is unsure if his fight with Bryan Flores on Saturday will be a fight-of-the-year contender, but he is certain of one thing – he will win.

The bout will take place at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and serve as the co-feature for Saturday’s telecast. Delgado (20-0, 15 KOs), an undefeated professional and Mexican Olympian, will face Flores – also from Mexico. Both hope to gain notoriety or, at the very least, move one step closer to a title fight.

Delgado, who fights under Top Rank, has fought nine times since 2021, and his date against Flores will be his second of 2024. His previous bout was a seventh-round knockout of Carlos Sanchez. Reflecting on the upcoming fight, Delgado acknowledged the chatter about a possible fight-of-the-year match-up.

“I don't know if it's going to be a fight of the year, because of the styles,” Delgado said. “I remember I fought [Omar] Aguilar, and he pushed me a lot, and it was a great fight. That fight was nominated for fight of the year, and I don't know if this fight with Bryan Flores is going to be the same.”

Delgado trains with Robert Garcia in Riverside, California. His camp has included sparring sessions with Raymond Muratalla, Vergil Ortiz, and the welterweight contender Alexis Rocha. He respects the 28-year-old Flores (26-0-1, 15 KOs), who in 2023 upset Shinard Bunch. Since Flores’ marquee split-decision victory, he has recorded two knockouts. This will be only the second time Flores has fought in the United States.

“He's a great Mexican boxer; he has experience,” Delgado said. “I know he's going to come to win, and I know it's going to be a good fight for me to push me.”

Delgado, 29, hopes to fight for a title soon, and he believes this fight against a top contender will bring him closer to that reality. When asked when he thinks he might contend for a title, his answer was simple.

“I think I'm near a title,” Delgado said. “I'm just waiting, and I have to keep winning.”
