At the Robin Park Centre in Wigan, Liam Walsh (11-0, 8KOs) retained his Commonwealth super featherweight title with a tenth round knockout of Jon Kays (13-2, 4KOs). Kays proved to be a tougher than expected opponent and did some good work in the middle rounds. He was badly hurt in the fourth round and went down. Walsh managed to hold on and even came back to stagger the champion in the eight. But, he started to fade as the fight continued. During the tenth round, Walsh landed a big hook to the body that sent Kays down to his knees. He was unable to beat the referee's count and the fight was waved off at 1:05.
