The eagerly awaited super-bantamweight clash between Liam Davies and Shabaz Masoud has been postponed.

The fight had been due to headline Queensberry’s latest ‘Magnificent Seven’ show in Birmingham on July 20, but Davies has been forced to withdraw.

The world-ranked Davies confirmed the news on social media.

“Unfortunately the fight has been pushed back,” he posted on Instagram. “Waiting to confirm the new date. Anyone who purchased a ticket can get a refund or can still go to the show as my little brother will still be fighting on the show in Birmingham.”

Davies, 16-0 (8 KOs), has been on a tear over the past two years, emerging from undercards to win the British and European titles. Most impressively, however, the 28 year old from Donnington has continued to develop and add aspects to his game. Davies produced an outstanding display of boxing to outpoint the tough Ionut Baluta for the European strap, collected the British title by blasting out his rival Jason Cunningham inside a round, and then picked apart and stopped the dangerous Mexican Erik Robles Ayala in two in March.

Despite producing a badly under-par performance when scraping past Colombia’s Jose Sanmartin last November, the slick Masoud, 12-0 (4 KOs) is a talented fighter and beat Davies as an amateur, but has faced nobody approaching his level as a professional.

Masoud posted his own statement that stated that the fight will be rescheduled and that he will still be fighting on July 20. The Ben Davison-trained fighter may benefit from an additional run-out before facing Davies.
