Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff - Lee Selby of Wales continued to build a strong base for future title activities by defeating a well-known veteran for yet another minor title. The victim was former world title challenger and European super bantamweight titleholder Rendall Munroe (27-4-1, 11 KOs), who was taken out in six. It was a good continuation of a busy year for Selby in 2013, when he consecutively defeated four opponents with a combined record of 63-1-2.

Selby (18-1, 7 KOs), 26, was better in every department from the early start. He was boxing circles around the plodding Englishman, outjabbing him, adding hard right hands on occasion. One of those hurt Munroe badly at the end of the opening round, forcing him to dance a bit in his corner. Selby continued to deal punishment to the comebacking veteran in the second, then the action calmed a bit in rounds three and four. Selby wasn't doing anything special but he combined his jab with hard body punches to drain energy from Monroe and to keep him at bay. His opponent looked ordinary, failing to find groove and imagination to do something special. The punishment was methodically stored in his body, and his legs started to soften in the fifth.

In the sixth, the Welshman connected with a damaging straight right hand, which pinned Munroe to the ropes. He was then transferred to the corner after yet another barrage of punches, then started to crumble under fire. His response was irregular, his punches were thrown with a visible desire to show ability rather than to actually block Selby. Finally, the Welshman called referee Ian John-Lewis, landed another fusilade of punches at will, and the referee stepped in to call it off at 1:31 of the sixth to the mild displeasure of Munroe. WBC #6, WBO #10, IBF #12 and WBA #14 Selby added a vacant European 126lb title to his previously owned WBC International, BBBofC British and Commonwealth belts, making another step towards a world title shot..
