Last Wednesday, Lee Selby (22-1) defended his IBF featherweight title for the first time by defeating former three-division champion Fernando Montiel via unanimous decision. The fight was Selby's first stateside bout and it was televised as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series on ESPN.

The 28-year old Barry, Wales native said that he hopes his next bout takes place at home.

"It feels great to fight here and defend my title in front of a massive audience. There are very few Welshman that were champions who fought out here," Selby told BoxingScene.com.

Montiel (54-5-2) has nearly triple the amount of fights that Selby has in the professional ranks. Selby believes that he will only get better by facing these types of seasoned veterans.

"I said that these were great learning experience fights. Montiel has 60 fights and titles in 3 divisions. I think he had 20 title defenses or title fights. That was only my 22nd fight," Selby reasoned.

Selby fought twice in 2015 after fighting three times in 2014.  He said that three fights a year would be optimum for him and that he would like to have a homecoming fight his next time out.

"I want my next fight to be back home in Wales in the UK so my fans back home can see me.  Ideally I will fight three times a year. Two in America and one back in the UK. That would be the best for me," Selby stated.
