Kompayak Por Pramuk (49-4) and Jean Piero Perez (20-5-1) will do battle for the Interim WBA World Flyweight Title in Thailand this week. The fight is set for Kon Kaen on Friday afternoon and will be broadcast live locally by Channel 7.

The lineage of this particular belt is a little unclear, Perez held it briefly in 2011 but was knocked out by Juan Carlos Reveco in his first title defence. In February Masayuki Kuroda  beat Reveco to became the full WBA World Flyweight Champion, a belt he still holds.

Reveco remains the reigning WBA champion at 112 lbs while Juan Francisco Estrada holds the WBA (super) flyweight belt after his surprise win over Brian Viloria earlier this year meaning that Kompayak and Perez  will be fighting for the right to become the third current WBA world flyweight champion.

Kompayak will be looking for his second world title having briefly held the WBA light flyweight strap. The Thai fighter has won three easy fights since being knocked out by Adrian Hernandez in the sixth round of their rematch in Mexico last October.

Perez is also coming off a straightforward sounding win, over Costa Rican journeyman Eddy Zuniga in March, and was unfortunate to find himself on the wrong end of a mixed decision loss on his last trip to Asia when he took on Milan Melindo in the Philippines last September.

The Venezuelan is 9 cms taller and will have a 7 cm reach advantage but Kompayak has not lost a fight in Thailand since 2002. The action is scheduled to get underway at 2pm local time.
