According to Team Chakhkiev, their protégé and the recent cruiserweight world title challenger will take on Romanian journeyman / fringe contender Giulian Ilie in his comeback fight following a disappointing June setback against WBC champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.

The 30-year old Olympic heavyweight gold medalist in Beijing, with a record of 16-1, 12 KOs, as a pro, and his 36-year old counterpart are scheduled for a ten-rounder. Chakhkiev is rated #5 by the WBC and IBF, and #15 by the WBA. Ilie (20-6-2, 6 KOs) has previously scored several upset losses, has never been stopped and is 2-0 this year following two back-to-back losses in 2012. He seems to be a legitimate opponent for Chakhkiev and can test his confidence following the recent loss.

The fight will be a part of a big undercard for the historical Wladimir Klitschko vs. Alexander Povetkin showdown, which is set to be held on Oct. 5 at the Olimpiyskiy Palace of Sports in Moscow, Russia. Ruslan Chagaev faces Jovo Pudar, and Grigory Drozd matches up with undefeated Pole Mateusz Masternak in an important cruiserweight fight in the same card.
