The anticipated rematch between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko is nearly locked in a for a date and venue, according to Fury's uncle and trainer Peter Fury.

Last November in Germany, Fury outboxed Klitschko for twelve rounds to capture the IBO/WBA/WBO/IBF heavyweight world titles. It was the first defeat for Klitschko in over a decade.

Klitschko had the option of an immediate rematch clause and it didn't take long for him to exercise that right.

Fury would lose the IBF title when he was unable to make a mandatory defense against Czar Glazkov. Charles Martin captured the vacant belt in January with a third round stoppage of Glazkov and defends the belt next month against Anthony Joshua.

The rematch was initially targeted for May 7th, but those plans quickly changed when Amir Khan announced that he was facing Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez for the same date in Las Vegas.

The negotiations would then turn to a potential June date in UAE. But now it seems a July date is nearly complete for a venue in the UK, which gives Fury the homefield advantage.

Their discussions have dragged on because the two camps had to secure a date that worked for all three of the involved networks - RTL, Sky Sports and HBO.

“July is looking favourite now and hopefully it will be in the UK,” said Peter Fury to the Telegraph. “Mick Hennessy [Fury’s promoter] is working with Team Klitschko around the clock. The Klitschkos are happy to come to England and I fully expect an announcement in April.”
