Kevin Mitchell says a cut on the bridge of his nose is 'perfect' and will not stop him from taking Jorge Linares' WBC world lightweight title on Saturday night - live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Three-weight world champion Linares is expected to provide Mitchell with the toughest night of his career and there was concern when Mitchell suffered the injury in sparring in Texas last month - but the 30-year-old has revealed it's a minor old wound that won't affect him on the night.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ following a public workout in Covent Garden, Mitchell said: "I picked it up in sparring with Ricky about a year ago. It was before the Wembley show. It was the week before the fight and we were touch-sparring and he threw a right hand over that cut me slightly.

"Then I was in Texas sparring a Mexican - same thing, long range, and he threw a right that came through the headguard.

"It definitely won't be a problem. It'll be fine. It's below the eyes and it's healing very quickly. It's perfect. It's fine. He's not hit me yet anyway!

"It's going to be a good scrap and a good tear-up. It's going to be entertaining. It's going to be what the fans want - I always put on a good show. The main thing is to get the job done and I'll do that.

"All of West Ham will be there and the crowd will be booming. I'll rock the gaff, watch!"

The bout will be Mitchell's third shot at a world title having fallen short against Michael Katsidis and Burns in the past and with his highly-publicised personal problems seemingly behind him, Mitchell feels he's never been in a better

"The difference is maturity. With age, you become a different person. I remember being 18 years of age and wanting to take on the world. It was never going to happen," said Mitchell.

"It was a long road but I've had two good years back with Tony Sims now. He's done so many good things for me. The whole team around me at the moment is perfect.

"I'm happy again. I'm engaged and getting married next year. I'm always with my boys. I'm brilliant in the gym and if you've got a happy life then you've got a happy gym. You can't beat it, you seriously can't.

"We have a good laugh in that gym. We have a few jokes but when it's flowing in there, it's unbelievable it really is. We've got a few close friends that come down in there and they watch it and enjoy it. Everyone gives each other advice - it's great."

Reflecting on James DeGale becoming world super-middleweight champion at the weekend, Mitchell added: "I was so happy for James DeGale. He was put under a lot of pressure. I remember when we were kids and he first got his nickname of 'Chunky' - he's come on and been a gold medalist and a world champion.

"I know he can come across as brash on TV but he's a good man and a gentleman. Now he's world champion. I'll be doing it next week."

A thrilling card of boxing also includes Kell Brook defending his world title against Frankie Gavin, Lee Selby bidding to take Evgeny Gradovich's world title and Anthony Joshua facing his toughest test yet in Kevin Johnson - plus more support.
