Everything seems to be in ordered for WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas when it comes to a planned unification against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, likely on September 3rd in Sheffield.

But not everything is fully completed on the end of Brook (36-0, 25KOs), who is not satisfied with the money being presented by his promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sports.

According to his trainer Dom Ingle, Brook is not being distracted by the situation and continues to physically prepare himself in the gym.

For Hearn, it took a lot of money to persuade Vargas to travel over to the UK to face Brook on home soil. At the same time Brook is not willing to take less money than Vargas. Brook wants to make more.

“This will be the first Pay Per View where he is top of the bill, so it is unknown territory, with a lot of details to be looked into,” said Ingle to the Sheffield Star. “Obviously if you are going to get a boxer to fly over to England from America it costs a lot of money [Vargas is said to have signed for $1.7 million with his promotional team Top Rank receiving a further $400,000].

“No world champion will want to receive less money than his opponent. I am not involved in that side of things but generally you have to estimate how much money will be cleared at the end of it. After this PPV, we’ll know how much the British public want to see of Kell. There is bound to be some caution over the contract for Kell, he has a meticulous lawyer and it is taking some time. But Kell is where he should be in training and soon as he has got a date and everything is settled he will be totally motivated to unify the belts.

“He is upbeat about what he is doing and knows it is going to be sorted out eventually. While the negotiations and whole PPV thing is complicated, there is a need to be precise.”
