USF Sundome, Tampa, Florida - Keith Thurman (26-0, 22KOs) retained his WBA 'regular' welterweight championship with an eight round stoppage of former beltholder Luis Collazo (36-7, 19KOs).

Thurman was picking his spots, using his legs and throwing combinations when he got Collazo in close. Collazo never stopped coming forward and looking to land punches.

The tide slowly changed in the fifth round, as Collazo badly hurt Thurman to the body with a hard left hook. Thurman used to his legs to stay away for the final 15 seconds of the round to get out of trouble as Collazo was looking to hurt him there again.

Collazo was more aggressive in the sixth, and Thurman was attempting to fight him off. Collazo had swelling around his left eye and a small cut opened up above the right eye, which was also swollen. Collazo was still coming in the seventh as Thurman was moving and picking his spots with accurate punches.

Prior to the official start of the eight, Collazo said he couldn't see out of his right eye and the fight was waved off.

Collazo has now lost two of his last three fights.
