Back on the 31st of March, Abema TV (a Japanese TV internet company) officially announced that retired former triple world champion Koki Kameda (33-2, 18 KOs, 31 years age and Kyoei Boxing Gym in Tokyo) would make his farewell fight against former world champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam (91-5-2, 47 KOs, 40 years old) of Thailand on May 5 at Korakuen Hall Tokyo. This fight will be broadcast live on the internet by Abema.

Kameda retired from boxing after losing by decision in 12 rounds against then world flyweight champion (WBA) Kohei Kono in a fight held in Chicago in October 2015.

But, on January 1 on Abema TV, Kameda made a surprise statement to finishing his professional boxing career at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, by returning to the ring against Wonjongkam by whom he was defeated by on points in 2010 in Tokyo - losing WBC title and incidentally losing his unbeaten record.

For his fight with Wonjongkam, Kameda traveled to the Philippines for intensive sparring with Filipino boxers for three days and sparring with world ranked Edward Hay.

On April 8 in Bangkok, Thailand, Wonjongkam suddenly returned back to the ring after four years and seven months of inactivity and won a unanimous decision over eight rounds against Manot Comput.

The fight was done as a measure to convince the Japan Boxing Commission [JBC] to sanction the contest.

Kameda's fight with Wonjongkam was agreed for at bantamweight over eight rounds.

According to Abema TV, Kameda vs. Wonjongkam will conclude in two scenarios, by knockout or no decision, because the winner of the fight will be determined by the votes from the internet audience.

However, the JBC rejected the idea of a 'special rules' fight and they are viewing this contest as nothing more than an exhibition and the boxers will be required to use 10-ounce gloves.

As part of the same event, former world bantamweight champion (WBO) and world-ranked super bantamweight Tomoki "The Mexicanito" Kameda (34-2, 20 KOs, 26 years old and Kyoei Boxing Gym in Tokyo and younger brother Koki) will be measured against Mexican Daniel "El Chato" Noriega (30-11-1, 15 KOs, 32 years old and from Torreon, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Mexico).
