Spaniard Juli Giner (18-1-1) won the EBU championship last night in Boulougne (France) at super featherweight with an eighth round stoppage of defending champion Romain Jacob (23-1) in what was a big upset.

It appears that Jacob made the mistake of trying to punch with the puncher and paid a heavy price. He was hurt in the fourth, made it back but was floored and stopped in the eighth.

Jacob was very close to a world title opportunity.

Prior to this fight Jacob was ranked at #3 by the WBC, #2 by the WBA and #3 with the IBF. Giner was # 3 with the EBU. This was a voluntary defense by Jacob.
