Former WBC light flyweight champion Rodel Mayol will fight IBF super flyweight champion Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr in a venue some two hours from Tijuana, Mexico but there’s no date as yet.

MP Promotions Michael Koncz, Manny Pacquiao’s adviser told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard that the 21-year-old Sanchez who has a record of 14-1-1 with 7 knockouts “has no power and I think Rodel has a good chance. He’s getting old and he’s got to do it.”

Mayol is 31-years-old and has a record of 31-5-2 with 22 knockouts.

He is coming off a dominating ten round unanimous decision over former world flyweight champion Julio Cesar “Pingo” Miranda last May 13 at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig in a fight promoted by Solar Sports.

Mayol’s biggest win was a 2nd round TKO over then WBC light flyweight champion Edgar Sosa on November 21, 2009 but Mayol lost the title by a unanimous twelve round decision to Omar Nino Romero in Mexico on June 19, 2010.

Since then Mayol has won five fights in a row and has looked impressive.

Sanchez won the IBF super flyweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Rodrigo Guerrero last February 11 and then successfully defended his title against Juan Alberto Rosas on May 19.

Sanchez has won seven bouts in a row after a 2nd round TKO loss to Daniel Rosas in a clash for the vacant WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation title on February 6, 2010.
