John Wayne Hibbert has reversed the decision to turn his back on the sport.

The former WBC International super-lightweight champion retired after being knocked out by Martin Gethin last November.

But the Hordon-on-the-Hill man, 32, revealed on Wednesday that he would be returning to boxing, albeit at welterweight.

Hibbert (17-5, 11 KOs) was stopped inside by Gethin when they clashed for the vacant IBF International super-lightweight crown at the SSE Arena, Wembley and hung up the gloves on the back of two defeats after also being stopped by Andrea Scarpa.

“After bit of time out and a good think, I’ve decided to box again,” Hibbert wrote on Facebook. “Many might think it's a bad move, many might like it and think it's a good move.

“Personally I believe I’ve still got something left in the tank.”

As well as confirming his return to the sport, Hibbert confirmed that he has switched trainers and will now be working under Barry Smith at West Ham ABC in London.

Further details regarding the return of Hibbert will be revealed in due course.
