With this Saturday’s British super-middleweight title showdown between Callum Smith and Rocky Fielding taking centre stage in the UK a question mark has been placed on Fielding’s mental strength by Smith’s trainer, Joe Gallagher.

Gallagher believes that his unbeaten starlet not only has the edge ability wise over his Liverpool rival but in the mental department too. Gallagher claims that after studying Fielding, a former Prizefighter winner, he has seen something of a bully in the 28-year-old Merseysider and one that becomes mentally weak when people stand up to him.

“I think that mental weakness will come to the fore again,” Gallagher told Sky Sports.

“It’s alright being brave in the gym or at a press conference or on TV, but when that bell goes he isn’t going to be able to bully Callum.

“If you watch his fight and you see him up against somebody of not much substance, there is a bully mentality in him.

“But if you stand up and give it back, he looks for way out. I think that’s what’s going to happen come fight night.”
