On Tuesday, former two-time world champion Joan Guzman (32-0, 19KOs) underwent surgery on his right hand to correct a small fracture that he suffered in his most recent bout against Puerto Rico's Jesus Pavon, whom Guzman defeated by knockout in eight rounds. The simple operation was performed in a hospital in Miami and everything went well. The boxer expects to starts to using his hand in two weeks time.

"Everything went well. It was a simple operation to correct a slight fracture that I suffered in my most recent bout with Jesus Pavon. I decided to get the surgery now to get ready for my next fight which could be in August," said .

Guzman wants to face former undisputed lightweight king Nate Campbell. Recently, there were negotiations for a fight between Guzman and countryman Victor Cayo. They were unable to reach an agreement and went their separate ways. Instead, Cayo fought Campbell last Saturday, and the veteran upset the Dominican crowd by knocking out Cayo in nine rounds.

Guzman and Campbell were set to fight several years ago, but the fight fell through when Guzman was unable to make the lightweight limit at the official weigh-in.

"I want to fight against Campbell. You know more or less it was three years ago that we were going to fight and we couldn't [fight] and everyone knows the reasons why, but now with this victory [over Cayo] it makes the fight between us more interesting," Guzman said.
