The welterweight unification between WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (27-1, 10KOs) and IBF champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25KOs) is potentially going to be pushed back to a date in October.

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, who handle Brook, is trying to finalize the details of the contest. The exact date is affected by another fight that Hearn is working on, a middleweight fight between IBO/WBA/WBC/IBF champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin and Chris Eubank Jr. Hearn wants the two events to be a month apart - because both contests would land on Sky Sports Pay-Per-View.

"There's still a bit of a way to go but I'm confident everyone wants to make it happen. Let's see if [Golovkin and Eubank] put pen to paper in the next few days. There's also Brook-Vargas and we are trying to marry the two together. I'm hoping the pair could be a month apart," Hearn told Nick Parkinson.

The way the situation is right now - if Golovkin-Eubank is confirmed for September 10, then Brook-Vargas could be staged at the Sheffield Arena on October 8. With Sheffield United at home on October 8, 15 and 29, Bramall Lane would only be available to host Brook-Vargas on October 1 and 22.

Once Hearn is able to finalize the date and venue for Golovkin-Eubank, he will have a much better idea of where and when he can stage Brook-Vargas.

"Brook was going to be September 10 but there have been a few negotiations to overcome on that so that fight may be early October, or we could go September with it if Golovkin isn't September," Hearn added.
