BoxingScene.com recently spoke to welterweight contender Jessie Vargas (22-0) who returns to the ring against Ray Narh (26-3) in the main event of a special Friday edition of UniMas' Solo Boxeo series at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Vargas last fought in March when he defeated Wale Omotoso via unanimous decision in Carson, CA.  He said that he is happy to be back in action and plans on putting on a great performance.

"I am happy to be returning to the ring.  I am very excited.  I just can't get wait to get back in the ring and put on a show for the fans.  It should be action packed.

"Ray Narh is a veteran.  He has a big amateur record and he is 26-3.  He has 21 knockouts so he should have power in his punch but I'm not worried about it. We'll be ready for it. When I catch Ray Narh I am going to stick him again and stick him again.  If the ref doesn't break it up I am going to finish him off," Vargas stated.

The Las Vegas resident hopes that a victory on Friday night will lead to a bigger fight in the near future.  The big fight that he really wants is against Mexican icon Juan Manuel Marquez who faces Tim Bradley on Saturday night also at the Thomas & Mack Center. Vargas feels that his youth and height advantage would lead him to victory over Marquez should they meet.

"I want to put on a great performance (against Narh).  I want to keep winning so that I can have the opportunity to get in there with Marquez in the future.  I feel ready for him.  The guy reaches up to my chin.  I want to be in with those guys. There is a reason why Marquez keeps choosing these really small guys (like Bradley and Pacquiao).  I want to be in there.

"People may want to hate me or doubt me or make negative comments because I want to fight Marquez.  Hey guys, these guys are not invincible!  They can be stopped.  It has been shown in the history of boxing.  I am young.  I am 24 years old.  Marquez is 40 years old and Pacquiao is 34 years old. There is going to come a time very soon where the young lion takes out the old lion and hopefully it will be me," Vargas told BoxingScene.com.
