MEXICO CITY

--Dante Jardon breezed to his second straight win after stopping Philippines' Jeffrey Arienza in six rounds Saturday evening in Mexico City.

The bout was one-sided, but at one point threatened to remain a somewhat monotonous affair. There was plenty of action, with Jardon controlling the tempo while Arienza tried but miserably failed to have his say in any given exchange.

Open scoring (a regional WBC title was at stake) had Jardon up 40-36 on all three scorecards through all four rounds, but the free-swinging local favorite picked up the intensity soon thereafter. Arienza's punch resistance began to wane, not a good thing when your opponent knows how to close the show.

Jardon did just that in a deciding sixth round. The veteran brawler landed a series of right hands before putting Arienza down and out courtesy of an uppercut. The visiting challenger never threatened to beat the count, with the fight stopped at 2:36 of round six.

The win is Jardon's second straight as he improves to 26-5 (20KOs). The 27-year old hit a rough patch after suffering back-to-back losses, coming up well short on the road in a failed title bid versus Takashi Miura in Dec. '13 and then dropping a 12-round decision to unbeaten countryman Adrian Estrella last summer.

Arienza falls to 12-4-1 (7KOs), with all four losses coming in his last seven fights. The bout was his second straight on the road; he is now 0-3 overall outside of Philippines.

In the evening's co-feature, Miguel "Mickey" Roman outlasted Edgar Puerta over 10 hard fought rounds.

Scores were 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94 in favor of Roman, who has now won 12 in a row.

The bout was competitive early on, but saw Roman slowly surge ahead over the second half of the contest. Puerta (23-6-1, 19KOs) - who has now lost three straight - was given a tongue-lashing late in the fight, his corner growing anxious that the fight was slipping away.

The speech needed to come much earlier, as Roman put too many points on the board for Puerta to overcome.

Despite the fight taking place at lightweight, Roman (50-11, 37KOs) has flirted with the idea of dropping down to 130 lbs. for a third attempt at a major title. Promociones del Pueblo is angling for the resurgent trialhorse to land a showdown with Takashi Miura, who first has a May 1 defense versus former featherweight titlist Billy Dib.

Both bouts aired live on Televisa in Mexico.

OFF-TV
Emmanuel Dominguez managed his second straight win and knockout after stopping countryman Edgar "Toluquito" Lozano (6-4-2, 4KOs) in six rounds. Dominguez (14-3, 9KOs) trains under the guidance of former bantamweight champ Alfonso Zamora.

Visiting Argentine cruiserweight German Rafael (5-0, 3KOs) returned to Mexico for the first time since 2013, maintaining his unbeaten record with a 6th round knockout of local journeyman Carlos "Buzo" Hernandez. Rafael has scored all three career knockouts in Mexico.

Eduardo Hernandez opened the card with a third round knockout of Rogelio Lopez. Hernandez (11-0-3, 7KOs) registered his fourth consecutive knockout with the win, including his third in a span of just six weeks. Lopez (5-6-1, 1KO) is now 1-4-1 in his last six starts.
