Every fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez headlines is an attraction, but few expect anything more than a walkover against the seemingly overmatched Edgar Berlanga in their Sept. 14 main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

All of the intrigue can be found on the undercard, which is where the ProBox TV crew turned their focus in a recent episode of “Top Stories.”

Specifically, analyst Chris Algieri said he’ll be closely watching the Caleb Plant-Trevor McCumby super middleweight bout to see if McCumby – who, despite 28 professional fights, has yet to be tested – is ready to elevate to a new level.

“I trained with McCumby about 10, 12 years ago in California, when he was a highly touted Top Rank prospect, and he looked really good in the gym,” said Algieri, a former junior welterweight titleholder. “He has a big amateur background in the juniors. He has good boxing skills. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s physical.

“But he’s been very inactive the last couple years, had some issues. I’m curious to see if he’s gonna be able to step to the world-class level. He’s going to be forced to, because Caleb Plant is a fantastic fighter – a legitimate world champion, a guy with a lot of skills.”

The ProBox TV team delved into additional Alvarez-Berlanga undercard matchups, including Danny Garcia-Erislandy Lara and Rolando “Rolly” Romero-Manuel Jaimes, in which analyst Paulie Malignaggi describes Romero “like a box of chocolates.”
