Unbeaten super flyweight champion Naoya Inoue is officially set to return to the ring. The 22-year old wunderkind is healed up and prepared to defend his title versus Philippines' Warlito Parrenas on December 29 in Tokyo, Japan.

The bout will top a televised tripleheader that will also include a junior flyweight title fight between Javier Mendoza and former two-division champ Akira Yaegashi as well as Inoue's younger brother Takuma Inoue in action.

The show was formally announced during a press conference held Tuesday afternoon in Tokyo, confirming news which first appeared on BoxingScene.com three weeks ago

Inoue (8-0, 7KOs) skyrocketed from fast-rising prospect to two-division champion in the blink of an eye. His incredible run in 2014 earned the gifted boxer the distinction of being named Fighter of the Year by BoxingScene.com.

Three knockouts came on the year, including emphatic title wins over the top rated fighters at junior flyweigh and super flyweight, respectively. Inoue scored a one-sided 6th round knockout of Adrian Hernandez last April, winning the 108 lb. title in just his 6th pro fight.

Two fights later, Omar Narvaez found himself overwhelmed by one of the fastest rising young fighters in the game, as he was bumrushed in two rounds.

The feat didn't come without its setbacks for Inoue, who has been out for all of 2015 due to injury. Efforts to secure his mandatory challenger resulted in Parrenas (24-6-1, 21KOs) fighting David Carmona to a 12-round draw in their interim title fight in July.

A rematch between the two was discussed. Carmona decided to move in another direction, allowing Parrenas - unbeaten in his last eight starts - to get first dibs at the returning super flyweight king with the agreement that he gets the winner at some point in 2016.

Inoue has vowed that - with a win in December - a stateside tour is planned for 2016. The ambitious plans are in line with American cable giant HBO's vision of one day matching him with unbeaten World flyweight champion and pound-for-pound king Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez.
