February 22nd will be a very busy day for Gary Shaw Productions as two fight cards will take place on both sides of the country.

Matchmaker John Beninati advised Boxingscene.com on Wednesday unbeaten junior lightweight Art Hovhannisyan will fight Alejandro Perez in the main event at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in Morongo, CA.

In the co-feature bout, unbeaten middleweights Tureano Johnson and Willie Fortune battle over eight scheduled rounds.

Both bouts will be televised on Showtime as its part of its popular “Shobox: The New Generation” series.

The Armenian-born Hovhannisyan (15-0-2, 8 KOs), who resides in Glendale, CA, is coming off a 10 round split decision over Miguel Acosta on July 20th. Perez (16-3-1, 11 KOs) has not fought in a year, knocking out Derrick Wilson in the eighth round of his last fight on February 4th.

On the same day at the Armory in Washington, D.C., Kendall Holt and Lamont Peterson square off in a 12 round bout for a junior welterweight world title belt.

Beninati also advised Boxingscene.com that the co-feature bout on the Armory card will be unbeaten super bantamweights Roman Morales and Jesus Hernandez.

Beninati was hoping Morales-Hernandez would take place at the Morongo Casino as both fighters are Mexican-American and would attract more attention from fight fans in the Southern California desert.

Morales (14-0, 7 KOs) fought last Friday at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, CA, knocking out Jose Iniguez in the fifth round.

Hernandez (10-0-3, 2 KOs) fought to a six round majority draw against Edwin Solis in his last fight on September 21st.

Both Holt-Peterson and Morales-Hernandez will be televised live on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights.”
