Former undisputed middleweight and light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins is very interested to see how David Lemieux (34-4, 31KOs) bounces back from Saturday's eight round TKO defeat to Gennady "GGG" Golovkin at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Hopkins, as partner in Golden Boy Promotions, is the promoter of Lemieux and guides his career with Eye of The Tiger Management.

Hopkins feels the 26-year-old Lemieux is still a very talented fighter, a very marketable fighter and has the ability to recover from the defeat.

He didn't see Lemieux take a lot of punishment in the fight and sees nothing to prevent the fight from being able to recover and get better from the taste of defeat.

Hopkins suffered his first loss when he made his professional debut but he recovered and then went undefeated for his next 22 fights.

Lemieux has been able to recover in the past. After back to back defeats in 2011, he won his next nine fights which includes capturing the IBF middleweight championship.

"David Lemieux put on a gallant performance and gave all that he could give with his talent, IQ and all that other stuff. I’m really interested in seeing how he takes that defeat and still being young enough to bounce back, not a spring chicken but young enough to bounce back and be better as time goes on," Hopkins told BoxingScene.com.

"He’s still marketable. He's still a well-known Canadian. And you know what? To go eight-nine rounds with Triple G, there’s no rewards for any scars you got, but he didn’t look that bad. He’s not beat up to the point where it was a situation or a mercy call."
