Top Rank recently held a press conference in Las Vegas to announce their fall slate of fights that will be either televised on ESPN or streamed on ESPN+.

One of the fights announced was the November 9th showdown pitting WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring (20-2) against mandatory challenger Lamont Roach (19-0-1). The fight will take place at Chuckchansi Park in Fresno, California.

Prior to the announcement of the fight, Herring told BoxingScene.com that he was very interested in a unification bout against WBC super featherweight champion Miguel Berchelt.  The fight didn't ever come close to being made as Berchelt made it clear that he wants to face unbeaten former featherweight champion Oscar Valdez in the spring.  He first must get passed Jason Sosa in a fight that takes place a week prior to the Herring-Roach clash.

Even with the Berchelt fight not being on the immediate horizon, Herring is confident that he will land a big fight after facing Roach.

“Right now I have to just focus on Lamont Roach. Even if we don’t get Berchelt or a champion afterwards from what I am hearing, Carl Frampton is somebody that actually wants to step up to the plate,” Herring stated.

As previously mentioned on BoxingScene.com, Frampton will return to the ring at 126 pounds on November 30th against former super bantamweight champion Isaac Dogboe.  If all goes well Frampton could move up in weight and attempt to become a three-division champion.

That would suit Herring just fine.

“I like Carl. He’s a a two-division champion. I have nothing against him. I respect Carl because when he called me out he didn’t do it in a disrespectful manner. He didn’t try to put me down to build himself like I felt with the whole Berchelt situation. Where he called me boring and he tried to say that his numbers do better than mines," Herring told BoxingScene.com.

"Let’s be honest. The reason why he came to my fight against Ito is because they all thought Ito was going to win. The minute they saw that Masayuki didn’t get his hand raised they had a change of plan. Jamel Herring is a bad style match up. They can call it boring or whatever but me - I have nothing bad to say about Berchelt. I am done talking about it. I wish him the best in his career but at the end of the day I still want to fight the best out there so if the fight is available down the road maybe we can come back to it.”
