Mick Hennessy will appeal against the decision in the main event of his most recent fight night.

The Channel 5-exclusive promoter, who handles the in-ring affairs of undisputed heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury, saw his charge Lenny Daws disqualified on Saturday.

Hennessy secured the Morden-based super lightweight home advantage for his second challenge for the European title.

But Carl Froch?s former mentor was left with a bitter taste in his mouth after Daws, who was taking on Madrid?s Ruben Nieto at the Westcroft Leisure Centre in Carshalton, was inexplicably banished from the ring following what was deemed an intentional headbutt.

The pair had been clashing heads all night in what could have been a Fight of the Year candidate, but confusion ensued when the doctor called the fight off due to the cut to Nieto caused by the head clash, before Denmark?s Freddy Rafn made the call to award the contest to the away fighter in the most controversial of circumstances.

And Hennessy has outlined his intention to attempt to right the wrong.

He told Kugan Cassius of iFL TV: ?I?m putting a major appeal in, definitely.

?I?d love to get [the decision] overturned but [in the] worst case [scenario] I?d like to get the rematch.?

After the fight, in the post-fight live TV interview, Hennessy had some choice words for the European Boxing Union and the referee.

But he continued his somewhat justified rant with Cassius, saying: ?That was disgraceful, that referee needs to be struck off and the EBU have got him working in their name, so something needs to be done about it.?

?I feel so sorry for Lenny,? Hennessy concluded. ?He?s a good honest pro who is working hard in the ring and doesn?t get the breaks and I?m trying to be there for him, but with cheats like that, in my opinion, it?s hard for us to manoeuvre.

?But whatever Lenny wants to do, if he wants to carry on, I?m going to push hard for him to get that rematch.?
