Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn has told BoxingScene that Anthony Joshua (13-0, 13 KOs) is now the latest in a long line of British fighters who sell huge amounts of tickets.  The heavyweight contender meets Gary Cornish for the vacant British belt at London’s O2 Arena on September 12 and the show has already shifted over 8,000 seats.

The ticket sales total is now close to 9,000; Hearn revealed that there could be a crowd of around 16,000 come the night as they are about to release tickets for the upper tier.

“Ticket sales for our shows continue to grow, I can't think of any market where we are seeing 12, 14, 17,000 on a regular basis,” he said when speaking to BoxingScene.

Should he beat Cornish, the 25-year-old Olympic Gold Medalist will fight local rival Dillian Whyte at the same venue and in front of another huge crowd.

“Anthony is already making huge strides at the box office,” revealed Hearn.  “We sold over 8,000 tickets in the first week of sale for his September fight and you know that if he is successful then the battle with Dillian Whyte later in the year will do the full (20,000) quota at the O2.”
