The good news for Chris John is that he remains boxing's longest reigning active titlist. The bad news is that yet another of his fights ends in a cut-shortened affair.

A featherweight title defense against Satoshi Hosono ended seemingly as soon as it began, as the two fought to a technical draw after just three rounds. A headbutt left the unbeaten defending titlist with a nasty cut over his right eye, at which point the bout was stopped.

The bout marked the 18th overall title defense for John dating back to his interim title win over Oscar Leon a decade ago. His record now stands at 48-0-3 (22KO), with all three draws coming in title fights. The cut-shortened ending marked the second time a title fight of his ended in a technical draw, when a clash of heads disallowed his bout with Jose Rojas to go past the midway point of the fourth round.

John also fought to a 12-round draw against Rocky Juarez in his stateside debut in 2009. The verdict was avenged with a points win seven months later in Las Vegas.

Hosono's record laterally moves to 23-2-1 (17KO). The Japanese contender had won two straight since his New Year's Eve 2011 failed title bid against Celestino Cabarello in his native Japan. Both of his losses have come in his lone pair of title fights, also falling short against Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym in 2010.

VETYEKA STOPS YORDAN IN 12

A year already filled with upsets contineus to grow as Simpiwe Vetyeka scored a shocking 12th round stoppage Top 10 featherweight Daud Cino Yordan.

The bout was nip and tuck throughout. Vetyeka never took a backwards step, forcing Yordan into a dogfight early and keeping it at a hectic pace. The end came in the 12th and final round, when Vetyeka stunned and floored Yordan. The referee stopped the fight soon thereafter to solidify the upset.

Vetyeka picks up by far the biggest win of his career, heading back to South Africa with an improved record of 25-2 (15KO). With the win also comes the IBO title, but also bargaining power in pursuit of the other major featherweights.

Yordan falls to 30-3-0-1NC (23KO), snapping a three-fight win streak.
